The Next Level

Development is still in full swing, and it's been exciting. After that first week, me and the others are back to patching bugs and working on new content for the game. While I was able to fix some bugs by temporarily removing some things from rotation and removing or moving some lines of code, I was mostly working on more content for this sprint. This was especially needed, since ideally, we wanted to have multiple stages to play in the game, even if they were randomly generated.

Ideally, the level themes were to be loosely based around park attractions. The main map's bright colors and tile floors were meant to echo that of a funhouse, for example, but the choices for decorations were meant to contrast it a bit. When thinking of the next area, a number of attractions came to mind, such as dark rides and even the concept of indoor theme parks in general, but something else came to mind while I was collecting the assets for the area, and then something came to mind.

I decided on making it a haunted castle type experience. It may get some more work in the future, but as of current, I think it looks fine. In order to make the maze different, I added some unique obstacles, such as similar rooms with different objects in order to keep the player on their toes, rooms with high-rises you can reach with a lucky mirror placement, and rooms with lowered floors to give the player an incentive to use their jump button. Of course, it may get more work sooner or later, but I believe this is quite a good start, especially since we're still ironing some bugs out. Hopefully, there will be even more to show with this concept in the future, too!

Video below. There wasn't enough space to actually upload a gif to the website this time, hopefully this is alright!
